# License [#license] > This page is a plain-English summary. It is not legal advice, and the license texts below are what binds. Where they differ from this summary, the texts win. ## In plain English [#in-plain-english] Aventara is **source-available**, under the **PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0** with an **additional permission** from the licensor. **You can:** * Use Aventara for free, **including in commercial applications and services** (your API, your SaaS, your internal tools, your client work). * Read, modify and redistribute it under the license's terms (keep the license text and the `Required Notice:` line with any copy you distribute). **You cannot:** * Use Aventara to provide a **product that competes with Aventara itself**: the framework, its packages and its tooling. Rebranding or repackaging Aventara and selling or offering it as a competing framework product is not allowed. **What this does not restrict:** * **Writing your own framework is fine.** The license covers Aventara's code, not the idea of a contract-driven framework. An independent framework you build yourself is yours. * **Competing with other products you build with Aventara is fine.** The additional permission narrows the license's non-compete to products that compete with the Aventara software itself. A product you (or the licensor) provide using the software, such as an app or a service built on Aventara, may compete with other products in the market. The additional permission only ever adds permissions; it does not remove or replace any term of the PolyForm Shield License. ## The texts [#the-texts] * **PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0**: `LICENSE`, shipped in every `@aventara/*` npm package, and at [https://polyformproject.org/licenses/shield/1.0.0](https://polyformproject.org/licenses/shield/1.0.0). * **Additional permission**: `LICENSE-ADDITIONAL-PERMISSION.md`, also shipped in every package. Its text: > **Additional Permission — Aventara** > > Copyright 2026 Mohamed Ragheb > > In addition to the permissions of the PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0 in `LICENSE`, the licensor grants the following additional permission: > > The Noncompete section applies only to providing a product that competes with the software itself — the Aventara framework, its packages and its tooling. Providing a product that competes with any other product the licensor or its affiliates provide using the software is a permitted purpose. > > This additional permission only adds to your permissions; it does not restrict or replace any term of `LICENSE`. Required notice for distributed copies: `Required Notice: Copyright 2026 Mohamed Ragheb`. Each package's `package.json` says `"license": "SEE LICENSE IN LICENSE"`, because the PolyForm Shield License is not on the SPDX license list. ## The Aventara name [#the-aventara-name] *A policy statement, not a license grant. It adds no conditions to the license.* The name "Aventara", its logo and the `@aventara` npm scope belong to Mohamed Ragheb. Use Aventara freely; mentioning it in your project is appreciated, but never required. The one rule: **don't present Aventara as your own product.** Without Mohamed Ragheb's permission: * don't rename or rebrand Aventara and offer it as something else; * don't name a product "Aventara...", or publish anything under `@aventara`. Only Mohamed Ragheb publishes there, or authorizes others to; * don't imply that Aventara is yours, or that you are its official source. Saying "built with Aventara", or "works with Aventara", is fine.
